Rachelle is gearing up for another busy weekend.

But of course, we have things to tell about how well therapy is going. One of her therapist who is very crafty and makes things adaptable for Rachelle sewed some velcro together and attached it to a hair brush so Rachelle will be able to slide her hand through the velcro and be able to hold her brush to brush her hair. She is also trying to figure out how to make her hair streightener adaptable for her ,,, and trust me , we need to figure that out because I am so bad trying to fix her hair with one. Sometimes I think I need the book the idiots guide to fixing hair.

She used a new machine today that helps work the triceps and also measure how much the machine is helping and how much she is helping,, she said , the machine helped alot.

Her physical therapist worked on transfers , wheeling up and down ramps, and sitting up. Rachelle told her that last time she had used the ladder and that's what she uses at home. Her therapist said that was nice but she was so close to sitting up without any help and guess what,,,, SHE DID IT,,, by rocking her body back and forth, she turned herself over, she gets up on her elbow, walks her elbow as close to her leg as she can ,, hooks the oppisite arm to the same side leg to help get her from her elbow to her arm,,, she has to kind of puts her face on her knee to do that,, BUT she did it...yayyyy

With her insurance she has about 9 visits left so that will get her to the end of November , during the month of December we will just go in there so she can use the weight machines and the electro bike and continue to work on things at home until her insurance gives her 20 more visits for the following year. We are still waiting for medicade to be approved which would give her more visits.

She spoke with Justin on Wed. night before rugby practice and she picked out things she wanted for her wheel chair she has to decide on a color. Once the order is put in she should have it in about 2-3 weeks. WHEW we are so ready to give her loaner chair back its pretty much sucked.

The guys at Rugby were saying how fast she has gotten and she was able to hook her rugby chair and hold one of the other guys back and keep him from moving. Not having therapy on the same day as rugby has given her so much more endurance. Next week she will have to have therapy on the same day but they were able to move it the morning so she can have a break in between times We went to the farmers market today and Rachelle and Aaron picked out the great pumpkin. I have no idea how much it weighs but it's a big one. Rachelle, Chris, Aaron and Rachelle's friend Cassey will be carving it tomorrow night. Hope everyone has a great weekend and a spooktacular halloween

Rachelle had a great weekend and , of course, she went to the ECU game!

Today in therapy she figured out how to sit up by herself from a lying down position. her therapist had made her a ladder made out of heavy material with loops in it. We had been tying it to the end of the bed but during therapy she thought it might be a good idea to hook it to the side of the matt which helped her sit up all by herself.

She also did the best transfers that she had done.. Rachelle is coming along great !

Chris was able to go with her to therapy today on the way home they stopped off and bought some halloween candy. They also purchased a washer/dryer that Rachelle can actually use. It has push buttons and if one of the buttons also turns into a ball that she can roll with the palm of her hand. They will be delivered tomorrow.

Now as soon as Independent Living comes through and installs the elevator she will be doing her own laundry,, YAY

We also have another appointment to speak with a builder who is going to come over and talk with Chris and Rachelle about bathroom ideas on Friday. Hopefully, by feb. her house will be completely or mostly accesable to her.

Yesterday evening Rachelle and the crew went to the State Fair. Even though Rachelle was cold, she had a good time and had fried Oreo's. Today she received good news that she has been approved for the new wheel chair. In preparation for her chair, Rachelle purchased new Harley gloves. She's even more unstoppable now!

At therapy on Wednesday Rachelle's therapist had made her a pair of straps to go around her thighs to help her move her legs. The straps have a loop on them for her to put her wrist through.

She also practiced sitting up from a lying position by rocking herself back and forth until she rolls over then pushes herself to her elbows and moves them around to her legs, at this point, she needs a little help getting to her hands to sit up.

She also worked on dressing herself with a pair of very large shorts and today she helped a little with her pants and she can almost put her shirt on all the way by herself.

During therapy the therapist seemed to think that she has more back muscles and a little bit of core muscle because she can now sit up on the side of the bed without slouching.

Therapy did kick her butt on Wednesday but she did make it to Rugby. She got out of Therapy at 5 and we had to be at rugby at 6
Her throwing is getting better and she was able to catch a ball from across the court ( not bad when you don;t have any hand function)

The fence is finally finished thanks to Chris, Bob ( Chris's dad_) , Casey and Aaron- -(Rachelle's brother). yayyy peedee will have lots of room to run amuck.

Aaron has been spending the week with Rachelle and helping out around the house.

Rachelle has been asked to speak at the ECU adapted sports day and her rugby team will also play that day. They also want her to speak in some of the academic classes and some of the public schools in the area. And she is excited about that

We are now off to the state fair!!!

On Thursday, Rachelle went to the Miranda Lambert concert. She had a great time, but started getting cold. In Rachelle style, she and the crew snuck up in to one of the box seats and watched the concert up there.

Friday afternoon Rachelle and Chris drove down to Greenville in preparation for the ECU vs. N.C. State game.

Rachelle and her friends tailgated on Saturday and enjoyed the game. Rach was nervous towards the end because the score was tied up and the game went into overtime. Of course, ECU won the game and Rach was ecstatic. Later on that evening, she attender the fundraiser that her friend Shannon held for her. She saw many of her old friends that she hadn't seen since freshman year of college. Her therapists from Pitt-Memorial were also there and Rach was very excited to see them. The fundraiser was a success and Rachelle spend the evening in the company of friends.

On friday, Rachelle went to see her spinal cord doctor and he was able to give her samples of a pain medication that she has been wanting to try for her nerve pain, If this works we the doctor may be able to get her insurance to accept this medication, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

All the paper work is finished and her insurance has been cleared for her to order her wheel chair,, yay, we soon will be rid of the crazy one.

Rachelle, Chris and i headed to Charlotte on Friday night to have her first rugby competition. The raleigh sidewinders were undefeted and came in first place,, they played against teams from Michigan, FLorida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and a team from va beach. They played 3 games on Saturday and 2 on sunday. She was a worn out girl.

She also was able to meet 2 other girls on another team that played rugby and she also met a guy that played for the USA olympic team,, he gave her good pointers on and off the court

Monday was a rest day, we went shopping and she and Chris went out to dinner for a friends birthday party.

Rachelle and I were able to go home on tuesday for one day and we came back tonight. She was able to spend time with both her grandparents, aunt, nephew, and dad and a few friends.

We made it back ( barely) for Rugby practice.

she has had a busy week and the rest of the week she will be rolling along all over the place with lots of plans

Rachelle had her usual therapy today. She's continuing to work on her regular exercises and is getting better at them. The therapists used the E-Stim machine to stimulate Rach's blood flow. Today was also Rach's rugby practice. She did the best she's ever done in practice and made several good blocks. Rach has a game in Charlotte this Saturday. She's ready to kick some butt. Go Team!

Rachelle had a busy weekend birthday!!

Rachelle and Chris had a garage sale Saturday morning, they had a lot of traffic and were able to get rid of a lot of things. And this woman must have thought Rachelle was not just in a wheel chair but has lost her mind too,.. She paid for one of her items but had a pair of shoes under her arms when the woman got down to the bottom of the driveway and into the street Rachelle asked if they had been paid for and of course they hadn't. They went after her and she did end up paying for the shoes. Too funny,, I guess she underestimated our Rachelle,, silly woman,,,

After the garage sale, they had friends over, a cook out and of course, watched the ECU game and the results of the game didn't make Rachelle very happy,, but she was happy that Nc state did loose to Va tech which made her very happy so she was able to enjoy her birthday : )

Bob and Susan, Chris's parents , were visiting Rachelle and Chris for the weekend along with Rachelle's friend, Kasie.

Rachelle, Chris and friends went out for Rachelles birthday they had a great time and came in with stories of a riot when they were leaving City Limits apparently a fight broke out and about 10 police cars showed up and tazed a few people. They were all safe in the cars though. Boy, did she have an interesting birthday!

Today she went to therapy, She really does a great job doing the slide board on her own, what she needs help with is getting her butt on the board and then just someone to make sure she doesn't fall over. We are looking into different boards for her to use. The one she is using has holes in each end for her to grab onto but we are looking into the ones that has sections of the board cut out so she can pull herself with each section.

She also was able to get on the e-stim bike today. It worked her legs muscles and she could feel the tingles in parts of her body, at first the electricity was making her fingers move so her therapist turned it down a bit,, we thought it might be too high. The bike automatically makes her legs pedal the bike while it sends the electrical stimulation in her legs which helps with muscle tone and blood flow. She will be able to do the bike 2 times a week, as well as, her regular therapy times the not so great part is that we have to be there at 9 am ,, ick,,, we aren't the best morning people but of course , with one eye open we will be there

Hi, everyone:

Rachelle is continuing to work hard in therapy. One of her therapists made her a ladder like rope device that goes at the end of her bed. The device helps Rach get up from bed. Also, she is almost able to slide board herself all on her own. Which is an awesome thing.

Tomorrow is Rachelle's birthday. Happy Birthday Rachelle!! We love you.
