Rachelle is definately blessed by all of you and we can see why she misses all of you so much.
We will be bringing her back to visit again and we hope you know that you are all welcome to visit too.
We all want to thank Miranda and every one that made this wonderful day possible,, I would love to list all the names but I just know that I would somehow miss one and I don't want to take that chance.
You all have been such a great support for Rachelle and I know you all have helped her get to where she is.
Rachelle also went to the senior cheer leading compitetion to see her squad cheer.. they did a great job and came in second. yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy team!!!!
If any one wants to visit. or come watch rugby or you just want to get in touch with Rachelle. the best way is with my cell phone

okay, so we have been slackers again but I can assure you that Rachelle has been kept busy.
She is learning a lot of things from her friends at rugby giving her tips for her every day life. they really are an awesome group of guys. One of the players have invited Rachelle and Chris over to his home so they can see the adaptions he has made in his home.
After her rugby practice on Saturday, she and Chris went out with one of the rugby players and his wife.
And on Saturday night they went out with some other friends.
Her doctor had changed her nerve pain medication upping her medications from 2 pills 3 times a day to ,, 3 pills 3 times a day and that seems to be working and her nerve pain has decreased a lot.
She is looking forward to comming to visit every one thursday at the centers . !!1 She is a little worried that the rain that we are supposed to be having will keep some of the people away,, LETS CROSS OUR FINGERS FOR NO RAIN. And of course, her family is excited to meet everyone !

Hi, everyone:
Yesterday consisted of more therapy for Rachelle. She did her usual workouts and practiced more transfers. She was very close to sitting up by herself, which is a very big accomplishment. The way she is learning to sit up is by rolling to one side and getting up on one side with her elbow. She works with her elbow until she jumps from the elbow to her hand. The therapists also did an assessment on Rach to see which body parts had improved. Rach has improvement in the triceps area. Right after therapy, Rach went straight to Rugby practice. She was already exhausted from therapy, but she practiced and learned a few plays. One guy from Rugby is donating his E-Stim Machine to Rach and she is getting it on Saturday. An E-Stim helps to maintain muscle mass and Rach responded well to it.
Today, Rach met a fellow Pirate fan (PirateCakeLady). She gave Rach a T-shirt that was donated just for her and made her cookies. Rach and her mom spend the afternoon shopping.

Today in therapy Rachelle's therapist used e-stem therapy on her legs and arms. E-Stim is a noninvasive therapy that uses controlled neuromuscular electrical stimulation to strengthen the muscles. The technique involves applying tiny pulses of electricity to stimulate the muscles. Her leg was jumping all over the place and since she did have a reaction to it her therapist are thinking that she will be able to use the e stem bike. This will help in keeping her muscles strong in her legs. She also recieved it in her arms and hands but she didnt like it as much because she could feel it. Guess electric shock just isnt her thing : )
She also worked on her triceps/ biceps today by lying on her back with her arms out and a ball between her fingers pulling the ball back over her head and then down to her front.. This was pa little difficult for her so her therapist held the ball up so she wouldnt drop it on her face and she also worked on transfers.
Before dinner Chris and Rachelle took Peedee out for a roll around the neighborhood.

Rachelle has been a busy bee these last couple of days,,
We had a family conference with Wake Med,, we met with her therapist, nurse and social worker to hear about her progress and also what they have planned for her long term goals.
Her long term goals . which by he way , will have us dancing in the streets when she accomplishes them,, but as we all know ,, it's baby steps.
The long term goals that we all will be working on is , Rachelle figureing out how to dress herself. right now she can put her shirts over her head but has a hard time pulling them all the way down,, mostly because she has to lean forward and sinec she has so little muscles in her stomach muscles she tends to fall over since its hard for her to stop herself when she is completely off balance. They do expect some of those upper muscles to return to help with that. Of course, every day she does get stronger.
They also want her to be able to transfer herself ,,, out of bed,, from wheel chair to car ,, however, first we are going to need to work on her sitting up in bed they are talking about a rope ladder that night be able to assist her with that or figuring the best way to get her on her side and being able to get up to her elow and finally her hands.
They are going to also want her to be able to transfer herself from the floor to her wheel chair. Which reallly would have come in handy the other day when I was trying to put her from the wheel chair to the car,, she was wearing shorts, her butt got stuck and the board tipped over and down she went,, luckily i was slow and she only recieved scuffed up knees. However, I panicked because I couldnt get her up ,, so i did the girlie thing started crying,, and she told me this was NOT the time to panic and she was fine... we ended up putting her in a lawn chair and a neighbor came to help and we got her back in the chair, I put long pants on her,, transfered her and off we went. ( no more shorts for her when i am around ) : )
Her therapist made her the device that she used to type with after we left PItt memorial we had to leave it with them So it's nice to have one again and it was so sweet of her therapist to take the time to make her one.
We are still trying o figure out what we want to do as far as extra therapy or Rachelle. We are happy with Wake med but we keep hearing how wonderfulo shephard is and we spoke with someoine who had seen the miami project and said how great that place was. At rugby the other night a dad came up to us and told us about this new place in Charlotte that his son is going to that had also been to shepheard and said this place is also great, unfortunatley, insurance won't cover any of the choices... However, the place in charlotte does give you one free try it session,, I'm thinking a road trip is in our future. I think for us to decide what road we want to go on we should probably atleast go see shepeard , find out what they can do for us that wake med can't do and also the charlotte area.
Friday night, Chris and Rachelle headed to Greenville to participate in the rock, roll , walk marathon they were having to raise money for the spinal cord unit and then it was off to her first rugby game. Joan was awesome enough to post the website to the pictures that were taken from the game in the guest book. They played 3 different games and the last game anybody could play so Chris , Rachelles doctor from Pitt memorial and one of her therapist got in the game to try it out.
I also would like to thank everyone caring about Rachelle as I have said before It's so nice to know people care and love her so much. And I also want to thank everyone who has made the poker run so successful. We appreciate everything so much!
We look fowared to comming to whitaker mill and wake forrest and seeing everyone... She misses all of you so much.
oh, and her rugby team does practice every wed night. and she does have games that she will be playing all over the east coast ,, some of the games she will be able to go to.. I know there is one comming up in Viriginia beach... To look at the teams calandar and web page,,, go to http://www.ncscia.org/theraleighsidewinders/index.html( they havent added her to the team web page yet,,,, we are going to have to speak with them about that : )

Hi, everybody:
Chris and Rachelle spend the day running errands together on Monday. Rach had therapy yesterday, as well as today. Her therapist made her a device she can use to type on the keyboard. Rach attended rugby practice today and got a jersey. Even though she had lots of nerve pain, she kept up with the rugby guys and did a great job in practice. Her first game is coming up soon.

Hi, everyone:
Today was the big day of the Poker Run. Although it rained for most of the day, the Poker Run turned out great. Rachelle spend the day with her family, friends and the Buffalo Riders. Thank you to everyone who came out to the event and those who were unable to attend, but were there in spirit. The event began at Joker's Bar and Grill, where all the bikers met and ended at the final pit stop in Portsmouth. Everyone enjoyed a nice lunch and played a few games of pool. There were also door prizes. It was a great event and it was so much fun! Thank you again everyone. Thank you Aaron for planning the event and thank you Buffalo Riders.

Hello:
Rachelle did have physical and occupational therapy today. She worked hard, as usual and her therapists gave her homework. Rachelle's homework are several exercises to help her get stronger. Another fun event that happened today was that Rachelle was interviewed for the Beacon. The Beacon is doing a story for Rachelle's Poker Run that is taking place on Sunday.
Don't forget! The Poker Run is this Sunday at Joker's Bar and Grill. Registration is between 9-11AM and the event will begin at 11AM.

since we were all so pooped out last night and didnt get a chance to talk with our girl and let her know what to update i thought i would jump on real fast this morning and do an update a little late from yesterday
her friend kasie left to go home yesterday it was great seeing her.
Part of the day was a little frustrating we have a long sliding board for transfers or should i say had ,, and since we have no idea where the board ran off to we were using the short board that made transferring into the car difficult and with 3 trys and 3 failures we ended up ditching the day and staying home until chris got home. but justin, one of her rugby friends, and who also works for staals , the wheelchair company,,, gave her a long board to use last night at rugby,,, yay
Chris can piggyback ride her so off we went to rugby practice,,, they worked her arms real well,, where we thought she would be a noodle today. She is learning on how to be a defenseman ( girl) after she gets stronger and picks up some speed i am sure she will be slamming her rugby chair into the other giuys and let them know she means business.
They were all awesome , helping her by giving her tips on blocking and even things to use to help her in her daily life as well as what to wear so her arms dont get red from the rugby wheels.
We were all exhuasted from our day yesterday and believe it or not we all were in bed my 10 30
we will update our postings again later tonight she does have pt and ot later today

Rachelle and Chris had a great afternoon. They invited friends over for dinner and had a cookout. Their next door neighbor came over and grilled great burgers and hot dogs. They had a great time hanging out with their friends and also watched Murderball.

Today was another relaxing day by the lake for Rachelle and Chris. Rach hung out with her childhood friend, Kelly and her husband Greg. They watched the ECU football game from yesterday again, but this time it was on TV. PeeDee had a good day as well; he swam his little heart out on the lake. PeeDee is taking a looooonnngg nap.

Rachelle had a lazy day yesterday. She and Chris went out on the boat for a long time. PeeDee also went on the boat and he loved it! The crew ended up towing a fellow boater home because they had complications.
Today was the first ECU football game. On the way to the game Rach realized they forgot their tickets at home. Fortunately, Rach made a quick phone call and all was well again. Rach mentioned she was hot the entire time she was at the game, so she had to go to the emergency tent to cool off. Rach's dad and nephew (Jeremiah) also went to the game. This was Jeremiah's first football game and he had a really good time. Jeremiah kept saying "I'm a pirate boy, Argg." Rach had a great time at the game and ECU won (and all the pirate fans went craazzzy)!!
As Chris and Rach were getting ready to leave, their car wouldn't start and the battery was out. Triple A came out and got the car running again. Rach and Chris are on their way back to the lake.

Good news! Rachelle's neck brace has been removed. She is excited to have it off. Today, Rach worked on her therapy. She's continuing to get stronger and is perfecting her exercises. Rach's wheelchair is also being worked on. This weekend Rach, Chris and both of their families are going to the lake to celebrate Labor Day Weekend.
Have a wonderful holiday everyone!

Rachelle had a very busy couple of days in va beach. She was able to spend her first night at home with her parents, bubbie , zadie ( grandparents) aaron, Susan and bob ( chris's parents). Aunt lous and Uncle Barry . Laura and David, grandmother and jerimiah.
The trip home was a little rough she over heated which gave her a fever and high blood pressure luckily that was able to get worked out before people she had company.
Today was a no neck brace off day,,, when we arrived at the doctor the x-rays hadnt been ordered and he needed to look at them before he said yes or no.. hopefully tomorrow the brace will be able to come off.
At the doctors office we were able to see the MRI that was taken the night of the accident we had though or some of us thought ( me) that the spinal cord was actually cut. however. what really happened her c6 squished the spinal cord severely and enough to cause the same kind of damage that it would have been if it had been cut. Amd we were able to find out that she did hit her head when she fell into the pool and the reason there wasnt any bumps , bruises or any brain damage that may have been caused with the impact was because when her c6 did break it caused the spinal cord to send shock waves that actually saved her head from damage , kind of like the cars that have impact control where the hood crushes to cut down on impact. It was real interesting to see the images of her injury and to get the full picture of things.
After her doctors appointment. since we were right next to Va beach general she wanted to go visit the ICU nurses that had taken such great care of her during her first 9 days. They were happy to see her and they thought she looked great.
Tonight she spent the evening with her kellys mom,, kathy/ Cathy ugg she is gonna kill me for guessing the k or c,, sorry about that but its late kathy, cathy. Also , Aunt Mildred , Heather. and Steve popped over to say hello.
The Beacn in Va beach is doing a story about Rachelle probably and hopefully this week to help promote the poker run and also channel 10 is supposed to do a story on her but i believe that will be the weekend of the poker run. I am not so sure of the dates anything will be printed or aired her dad is her ' manager' and keeping up with the dates.
tomorrow we will be making the trip back home hopefully in time for her to make it back to rugby practice. She really is excited about playing and the guys have been so nice to her.
hopefully, we will get a few cool shots of her playing.
Thanks again for keeping up with rachelle
